This space features a collection of the courses and workshops I’ve designed and taught — in gerontology, quantitative methods, and the tools researchers use to make sense of data.

My approach

In every course, I draw on a sentipensante (sensing/thinking) pedagogy, which invites students into deep learning through contemplative practices that connect course material to their own lived experiences and backgrounds. This is part of how I work toward diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the academy — making rigorous gerontological and quantitative training feel relevant, humane, and reachable for students from every background.

A multidisciplinary overview of theory and research on adult development and aging — how biological, cognitive, and social changes combine across work, family, relationships, and community to shape the aging process, and how evidence can promote healthy aging and reduce disparities in later life.

Social Statistics

An introduction to the fundamental statistical concepts and techniques social scientists use to analyze and interpret data, from descriptive to inferential statistics — with hands-on work in R using data from the General Social Survey.

Using Stata

A six-session workshop introducing participants to Stata for data management and analysis, working through the main functions with real data examples — and closing with a session on a dataset of each participant’s choosing.
